V3 Dropper Quick Grease Instructions



Tools Needed

  • Strap wrench
  • Light suspension grease (ie. Slickoleum, Slick Honey)
  • lint free cloth.

This easy service can be completed on the bike.  Depending on the conditions in which you ride,  this service can be performed as regularly as every 25 hours of riding.  Keeping you upper bushing (10) and dust wiper (9) clean and greased will greatly prolong the life of your dropper.

STEP 1: COMPRESS DROPPER & LOOSEN MID CAP ASSEMBLY 

Using your cloth,  wipe any grit or debris away from the dust wiper (9) and the upper tube (1).  Compress the dropper post into a mid travel position.  

Unscrew the mid cap assembly (8,9) by hand or using a strap wrench and slide it up towards the seatpost head.

 

 

STEP 2: REMOVE & CLEAN UPPER BUSHING

Press the remote to release the dropper to full extension.  The upper bushing (10) should come up out of the lower tube (13) with the upper tube (1).  If it sticks,  just gently compress the dropper and try again.  Once you can access the upper bushing,  remove it from the upper tube.  Clean the bushing,  inside and out,  then clean the upper tube below the mid cap assembly (8,9). 

 

 

STEP 3: GREASE & INSTALL UPPER BUSHING

Grease the upper bushing (10),  inside and out,  with your light suspension grease.  You can also apply some grease to the upper tube (1) just above the lower tube (13).  Slide upper bushing back over the upper tube

 

STEP 4: COMPRESS DROPPER & SEAT BUSHING

With the midcap assembly (8,9) and upper bushing (10) loose on the upper tube (1),  compress the dropper to mid travel.  If you place the upper bushing just above the lower tube,  this action should pull the upper bushing into its seat within the lower tube.  If the bushing doesn't seat completely during the compressing of the dropper,  you can seat it by pushing down on it with your thumb and index finger.  It should look like the photo below.

NOTE:  When the mid cap assembly is unthreaded from the lower tube,  the dropper can extend further than the functional max length.  Make sure to compress the dropper to mid travel before attempting to thread the mid cap assembly back onto the lower tube

 

 

STEP 5 : TIGHTEN MIDCAP ASSEMBLY

With the upper bushing (10) fully seated in the lower tube (13),  you can now slide the mid cap assembly (8,9) down and thread it to the lower tube by hand.  Once it is hand tight it is recommended you snug it up with a strap wrench.

 

STEP 6: FUNCTION CHECK

Cycle the post a couple times to confirm smooth action.  If excess grease builds up on the dust wiper (9),  wipe it away with your cloth.  If there is more grease than necessary,  it will weep out through the dust wiper after some cycling.  This is normal.  If you do notice any excess grease on the dust wiper be sure to wipe it away so it doesn't attract unwanted grit.  This weeping of excess grease should only last a ride or two.
